Theater/Drama Teacher (PT or FT)

The Carmel School seeks an inspiring theater/drama educator for the 2024-2025 school year (full-time or part-time). The Theater/Drama Teacher is a unique position at The Carmel School that involves teaching various students of different ages and abilities. This position is integral to the school’s development and appreciation of performing arts and instruction.

The Theater/Drama Teacher is responsible for developing students’ enjoyment, appreciation, and musical performance through various planned drama experiences. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in both musical and theatrical performing arts and be intimately involved in the instruction and development of the school's theatrical or dramatic programs. This position may involve teaching across multiple school divisions (Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School), so the candidate must possess strong qualities of flexibility, communication, adaptability, and organization.

At The Carmel School, our teaching faculty are expected to:
  • help each student develop competence in his/her skills 
  • motivate each student to attain and develop necessary 21st-century skills toward thinking critically, asking higher-level questions, and collaborating with others to solve problems
  • encourage each student to understand the rules and functions of the classroom and each learning environment
  • foster students' engagement and inquiry in their studies
  • champion the role of independent schools in the greater Richmond/Fredericksburg area
Please also note that a Bachelor's degree is required, a Master's degree is strongly preferred, and certification in (content area) is preferred. All employees must complete a criminal background check upon their official start date.


Qualifications
  • A minimum of a B.A. in a relevant field, or commensurate experience, is preferred.
  • Experience with theater or musical theater is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to work with students at all skill levels is required.
  • Aspects of the position can at times be physically demanding, but reasonable accommodations may be available if requested in advance.
